Sharing a dose of inspiration today from the incredible BHLDN bridal line! It boasts gorgeous vintage and romantic inspired gowns and it sure makes us want to get married. If you are anything like us you could get lost for hours in Anthropologie, heck, we wish we could wake up in that store ever morning and get dressed. We were so happy when they finally announced the addition of a bridal line a few years back and have never been disappointed by their designs. Not only do they have dreamy dresses, they also have killer accessories including jewelry and shoes. Dresses start as low as $300, so don’t write it off as out of your budget, it would be a shame to miss out. Here’s a little inspiration and a whole lot of pretty for your Friday.

Today I have the honor of introducing you to one gorgeous bride-to-be and someone who knows quite a bit about the wedding industry. Meghan works at the lovely Wedding Shoppe, Inc. located on Grand Avenue in St. Paul and specializes in Marketing and Technology for them. She has seen both sides of weddings from helping brides connect with dresses that they will say “I do” in to planning her own perfect day as a bride. She is filled with oodles of amazing advice (tip: you should bookmark this post) and brilliantly shares ideas to help keep the planning process smooth. Meghan is a pro when it comes to advice about dresses, attire, and everything in between. The best part? She realizes the importance of having fun… My goodness, let’s all agree that her and her fiance make one gorgeous couple! Congrats you two and happy planning!

Name: Meghan Jungwirth

Business: Wedding Shoppe, Inc. (more commonly referred to as “The Wedding Shoppe”)

Location: Grand Avenue, Saint Paul, MN

Why you love your job: At a very young age my mom let me decide what I wanted to wear each day, and each day was something completely random. From casual polka dots and stripes, to puffy sparkly dresses, I loved clothes and it carried through right to college where I majored in Apparel Design and Development. After graduating with my degree I decided to look for more of a stylist position and that’s what landed me at the Wedding Shoppe. I started working with bridal parties and loved being surrounded by all the beautiful gowns and happy brides-to-be. After working in the bridal salon for about a year and a half as a personal shopper and buyer it was evident that while I liked working with the beautiful bridal parties, I wasn’t much of a sales girl. That’s when I accepted a position in our corporate offices working on our, at the time, up and coming website and marketing department.

For the last four and a half years I have worked my way up to Marketing and Technology Manager which has brought me back to my design roots. I currently design the overall look and functionality of weddingshoppeinc.com, which we are constantly improving to bring our brides the best experience possible. I am also involved in the Kennedy Blue (our in-house bridal and bridesmaid collection) and Pink Bride (our breast cancer awareness brand) photo shoots, bridal fair designs, store signage and branding, while also managing an awesome marketing team that is filled with ladies who are just as passionate as I am. Working in the wedding industry is fun, exciting, and full of beautiful things but working for the Wedding Shoppe is what truly makes me love my job. I couldn’t have chosen a better company and family to work for! Now that I am recently engaged, I get to be on both sides of the business. What a fun experience this will be!

Fun fact about you: I have a passion for horses and riding. I take lessons every Tuesday morning at Windy Ridge Ranch and it is one of the best parts of my week.

Three trends you are loving:

  1. For bridal gowns: Printed or embossed fabrics. I just can’t get over the subtle uniqueness of a gown made of brocade or stripped/floral organza. LOVE! … I hope my fiancé’s not reading this…
  2. For bridesmaid dresses: Mismatched colors and styles. Not rainbow, but several shades and tones of the same color, and not one matching another.
  3. For Tuxedos: 3 piece suits and unique, colorful ties (no rental zipper ties, please!)
  4. For Decor: DIY EVERYTHING!! Pinterest is a beautiful thing. (I know that’s 4 but I couldn’t resist!)

In general, start your planning early if possible, build a Pinterest board, and get an organizer asap.

When it comes to shopping for wedding attire, I have several suggestions, so grab your pen and paper.

  1. Make an appointment, and during the week if possible. Pretty much all bridal salons are busy on the weekends. Having an appointment will ensure you a personal shopper to work with and coming during the week means you won’t have to fight the crowds!
  2. Get inspired… but not too inspired. Shop online, get pinning, rip things out of magazines, anything to get an idea of what you like, but keep an open mind. Your personal shopper knows her dresses and what looks good on your body type. Let her pull a couple things you may not have pick yourself. Who knows it could be a perfect fit!
  3. Come prepared. Wear undergarments you won’t mind your personal shopper or a friend seeing you in. You don’t want to hear some of the horror stories we have collected over the years. Also, bring any must wear accessories. If your mom’s veil and grandma’s earrings are something you can’t do without on your wedding day, bring them along! It’s best to make sure everything matches before you say yes to the dress.
  4. Limit the number of people you bring along. Just a couple VIP’s are all you need. This will keep the personal opinions down and the moral up!
  5. Expect alterations. There are very few brides who find the perfect dress with the perfect fit right off the rack. 90% of brides will need some form of alterations, whether that be a hem, shoulder straps shortened, waist taken in, or  a bustle. Odds are you are going to need something done once it comes in. It’s best to prepare mentally and financially for alterations, that way if you don’t need them it will be a nice little surprise rather than an unexpected expense.
  6. Have fun. You are preparing to celebrate your love on one of the happiest days of your life. Don’t lose sight of that because of a few bumps in the road. Your big day will be perfect regardless of tuxedo rental pants that are a little too long, missing favors, or a wrong cake flavor. You’re going to look back and remember all the fun you had and that’s all that matters.

Considering a getaway destination wedding? Take notes from this gorgeous couple who decided that California would be the perfect fit for their big day, captured by Megan Clouse Photography. What could be more picturesque than a beautiful sunny day in wine country? The bride wore a periwinkle gown and we are just smitted with how it flows in the wind. After a short and sweet ceremony, the reception was a beautiful and thoughtful picnic with lots of DIY touches including tons of wine, cheese, and bread. What a delightful and relaxed option for those Midwest brides opting for a special and intimate getaway! Wisconsin_Minnesota_Wedding_Photographer_0187.jpg

We loved this vintage inspired styled shoot with the talented Emily Snitzer Photography. She teamed up with her beautiful sister and envisioned a vintage theme, beautiful old books, a VW van that will make you drool, old lanterns and the beautiful landscapes of Wisconsin. As Emily’s vision grew, so did the vendors who wanted to be involved in this story. We love the different looks of the shoot and the way she showcased such fun, yet simple props. Curly crazy hair, beautiful antique gown, the green lush backdrop of Wisconsin…yes, this was exactly it, A Northwoods Wedding inspiration at it’s finest!

I met Monica of Monirose – Bespoke Gowns for a hot minute at a bridal industry event, but throughout the last year our friendship has spanned many a tweets, emails, and even a fun styled shoot! She is a sweetheart through and through and her talent to create custom bridal dresses is mind boggling. From bridal gowns to bridesmaid dresses, she continues to create custom looks that suit the feel of each unique wedding perfectly. She is a sweet mama, a talented seamstress, and a lady who you just want to work with. I am always excited to see bits and pieces of her work and the finished product never disappoints! Are you a bride who can’t seem to find exactly what you are looking for? Consider a custom gown from a talent like Moni, seriously, you won’t be disappointed… Your dress can and should be as unique as you are.

Why you love your job: Being able to literally make a bride’s unique vision for her wedding attire become reality (at some point of the process, literally stitched and pinned on her) and watching her excitement as it unfolds is a dream.

Fun facts about you: I am the eighth of twelve children – yup, twelve;  I married a big geek, but I’m kind of a geek at heart too: my favorite tv shows are post-apocalyptic/futuristic dramas (e.g., Fallen Skies, The Walking Dead, Firefly).

Three  Things I’m Loving:

1. Tufted Chairs – We’ve been wanting to redo our living room, and I’ve got my eyes on a cozy chair like this one. You’ll find me caught up in a good book with a giant cup of coffee on a daily basis.
2. Bright Lips – Clinique’s “Ambrosia” is my new favorite.
3. Winsome Animals – Maybe it’s because I was 39 weeks pregnant when writing this, but I’ve got little things on my mind…  I adore quirky animals like this Rhino by Jellycat. I recently picked up a corduroy walrus from Anthropologie for our ‘little man’. **Monica has since welcomed in a handsome little man into the world! Hello, Sebastian Peter.

Favorite Wedding Trends:  organic, feminine & undone. Each of these words leads to a wedding day that looks and feels effortless, genuine and lovely!   I would say that this picture by Jose Villa pretty much sums it up…

Advice for brides:   Don’t get caught in how a bride “ought” to look:  I often ask my bride’s what they like to wear as a starting point for their gown inspiration. What’s comfortable, makes you feel beautiful and shows off your best assets is not necessarily in a bridal boutique.

on your wedding day, you want to feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. after all, it’s the day you’ve been waiting for your entire life. besides having the perfect man by your side, you want to be able to wear the gown of your dreams, too.  but once the the rose petals have been swept away, the candles blown out, and the i do’s said, what are you going to do with that gorgeous work of art? one way to keep the the the beautiful spirit of your dress alive is to allow it to live through others by selling it to an upscale bridal consignment shop like LUXEredux Bridal.  by doing so, you give another lovely bride the opportunity to feel the happiness you felt on your wedding day and in the spirit of the holidays, what better gift could one bride give to another? let the sweet ladies from LUXEredux tell you more…

We are bridal fashionistas at heart and we swoon over well-made designer wedding gowns.  Polyester gives us a tummy ache.  Sorry! We believe in 100% silk, perfectly smooth, luxurious satin, and we go gaga over silk organza. Regardless of budget, we want every bride to know what it’s like to wear a beautifully made bridal gown. LUXEredux Bridal was born from the desire to give every engaged beauty the opportunity to find “the one”!

We offer luxury, high-end designer bridal gowns for 20-70% off the retail price. Most of our inventory is sample gowns from boutiques spanning across the U.S.  We also offer gowns that are new with tags or once loved gowns that have been worn and altered.  If you are thinking of making some extra cash to remodel that kitchen, and your wedding gown isn’t something you feel the need to keep in a box for the next 60 years, consigning your gown with us would be a lovely option!  We have a list of the designers we accept on our website www.LUXEreduxBridal.com

We love to have fun and keep things light hearted.  Because our gowns aren’t from your typical special order boutique, that doesn’t mean you don’t get the same experience and service as every other bride.  Lindsay Fork, owner, has a special order boutique right downstairs from LUXEredux and one of the best compliments she receives from brides who shop at LUXE is a non-ostentatious attitude of referring brides to LUXE when La Jeune Mariee falls out of the brides price range.  Couple that with the amazing attitude and all around excitement of LeAnn Young, head stylist of LUXEredux and a bride feels like a million bucks!

While internet sites selling used wedding gowns has grown in popularity over the last 5 years, we heart that LUXEredux is also a permanent brick and mortar store right here in the heart of Columbus, Ohio.  Being a Midwest gal, you know that driving is no big deal!  We get brides from all over traveling to see gowns that are this discounted and in this great of shape!  The care that has been maintained on the gowns we accept is second to none and we pride ourselves on that feature.  We consistently hear brides exclaim in disbelief that a gown looks that good for being a sample.  Most often, a spot clean around the train is the only fixer-upper you will need!

bouquet by the ritzy rose

This past October, Lindsay was able to see what is trending for 2012 in NYC at International Bridal Market, and luckily some of the same styles we have at LUXEredux are still where it’s at!  Here’s a look at the trends and the gowns we have that match up!

Textured Skirts– Melissa Sweet’s “Farren”

Full Tulle Skirts- Amsale’s “Nicca”

“The Kate Effect” Lace and sleeves – Robert Birnbaum “Amy” (below) & Priscilla Of Boston- Vineyard “Tristan”

Illusion Necklines- Priscilla of Boston “4509“ (below) & Augusta Jones “Kenna”

Various Colors- Nudes, Peaches, Blushes- Our sashes do a great job of adding a pop of color.

Our tidbits on searching for “Your Perfect Dress”

  • Have a budget in mind for how much you want to spend.  It really is a set back for all parties involved if you try on a gown that is out of price range and you fall in love.
  • Look online and at bridal magazines before you make appointments. Tear out the gowns that you think most represent you.  Bringing these to your consultant is much easier than describing because many times brides don’t necessarily know proper terminology or cuts of a gown and that can lead to miscommunication and frustration.
  • Find a few designers that you think are most compatible with your style and seek out those boutiques so that you don’t feel the need to marathon shop at every store in town.
  • Attend one or two appointments in a day and space out the timing so you  have time to rest in between.  The deer in headlights look is not attractive!
  • Think about your wedding details so your gown resembles the feel you are going for.  We know trying on dresses is fun but if you don’t know if you’re having a ball room formal wedding versus a beach soiree, an appointment can be very much time wasted in the eyes of your consultant.
  • We know bringing people with you can seem like a fun party but you must know the personalities of those around you.  Inviting someone with strong opinions can very much deter your search efforts and cause hurt feelings.  It’s said more often than not, but for good reason, bring one or two trusted advisors and save the party for the engagement festivities!

Review from one of our Brides:

“Amazing store in Old Worthington. My husband and I eloped in Maine in early September of 2011. I was looking for a special, short dress, that would be appropriate for the event, but was not interested in spending thousands of dollars. This shop was perfect. LeAnn was extremely helpful and listened to my criteria. I found two wonderful dresses and chose a knee length, halter dress, ivory with a lace overlay. After some minimal alterations, it was absolutely perfect and didn’t cost an arm and leg. I would highly recommend brides stop by. Some dresses are once worn, others are new but discontinued styles. It’s a great option!”

one of the things many young girls dream of is wearing the dress of her dreams on her wedding day.  as a little girl, i loved playing dress-up with my grandma’s old formal dresses and pretending pillowcases were veils.  giddy with excitement as my cousins and i put on all the pretty gowns, we felt as though we were the belles of the ball.  over the years my taste in fashion has drastically changed but i still believe one thing to be true more than anything else…your wedding dress should be everything you’ve always dreamed it to be.  those feelings of excitement and beauty you had when you were little walking down the pretend aisle should emanate from you as you walk down the real aisle in your actual wedding gown.

no matter what your style is your bridal gown shouldn’t be anything but you. it should showcase your individuality and be something you feel the most comfortable in.  be open-minded.  you may go into the bridal salon with an idea of what you want and after trying a few, you may find that you like another style better.  remember, the hanger never does a dress justice…it needs a beautiful woman to give it life!  so don’t be afraid to step outside of your box and try something you may never have thought of before; you just may surprise yourself.

finding your wedding dress can be an overwhelming process but remember you’re not alone.  bring your best support system and have fun! your fiancé will see you as the most beautiful woman in the world on your wedding day no matter what so find a gown that represents you…after all, that’s the person he loves.
