Moody Blue Hour Engagement Session at Lake Cuyamaca in San Diego California
Lexy and Raul are from San Diego, CA, and have been together for 11 years! They are finally tying the knot in October of 2020. I am so excited to witness such a special moment as their photographer. They met through social media because they had friends in common and decided to give it a shot after a few months of talking. They haven’t looked back since! Raul proposed in Las Vegas at the top of the Paris Eiffel Tower and Lexy was SO surprised since they were there to celebrate his birthday!
Their experience with Samantha Phillips Photography:
When Lexy reached out to me to photographer their wedding, I couldn’t say yes fast enough! I love offering engagement sessions as a part of my wedding packages because it gives me an opportunity to spend time with the couple in a stress-free environment and we can really go to know each other before their big day. When I schedule engagement sessions with couples, I encourage them to choose a spot that is special to them, or a place that they feel represents them and their relationship.
I asked Lexy and Raul what their hobbies are and she mentioned how much they loved fishing, so I felt that the beautiful Lake Cuyamaca (a popular fishing destination) was the PERFECT spot for them. When the session first started, Lexy kept telling me how nervous she was and that they might be “awkward.”
This is such a common conversation I have with couples, but by the end of the night, they were expressing how much fun they had and how much easier it was to be in front of the camera than they expected! The chemistry between Lexy and Raul is so strong and you can see how in love they are through these photos. We had such a great time walking around the lake and taking photos as the sunset. Lexy wore a gorgeous red dress that popped against the green background and flowed elegantly in the lake’s breeze. They also brought a case of beer to cheers with and commemorate the occasion!
Photographers Favor Moment:
My favorite moment during this session was towards the end when we broke out the beer! I always encourage couples to bring props or things that might show some of their personality. When Raul brought a 6 pack of beer, I knew exactly how we could incorporate it into the photos! During our last bit of light, I had them break out the beer for cheers and chug! I think this was a celebratory way of saying “holy crap, we are getting married!” Which really brought out some huge smiles and excitement!
I am a San Diego based wedding photographer who loves to capture a couple’s authentic emotion and connection! I pour my whole heart into my work. And I thrive on creating genuine relationships with my clients so they feel comfortable and supported on their wedding day!
