rachel + russell’s story is a true example of the saying, ‘timing is everything.’ having known each other for years, it wasn’t until a casual gathering of mutual friends in college that these two lovebirds truly realized just how special the other was.
melissa cales photography & design was kind enough to share this lovely wedding with us. one of the most gorgeous, vintage events we’ve featured, rachel + russell’s wedding, along with the vintage style of the images, truly does transport us into another time and place. rachel’s perfectly coifed chignon, the parasols, lovely white vase centerpieces, and the photo booth are just a few of the reasons this wedding is stunning.
Bride and Groom are Rachel + Russell. They have kind of a fun story. Rachel has a twin brother who was friends with Russell growing up, they went to school together through high school but were never really good friends or anything. The got together in college when some mutual high school friends invited them to a party at the University of Dayton. The table numbers at their reception were ball jars with childhood photos inside of them. During Rachel’s fathers speech, he mentioned that when they were going through old photos to make them, they realized that Rachel and Russell were on the same tee-ball team when they were little!
Rachel wanted everything to have a very classical, vintage feel. The girls all had 1950-esque hair styles and parasols and the guys all had very classic black suits. All of the tables at the reception had tons of different milk glass vases with various kinds of flowers. The variety made it really gorgeous.
The entire event was supposed to be outdoors. The day before their wedding was absolutely gorgeous, 70s and sunny. Then a crazy thunderstorm hit the nigh before and knocked down trees and power lines in the town were they were getting married, Tipp City, OH. They had to switch where all the girls were getting ready at the last second so they would have power! It sprinkled on and off the entire day which made photos tough, but I nearly kissed Rachel when I saw the parasols she had got just because she thought they would be cute in photos – they were a life saver and look so awesome! The wedding + reception were at Cedar Springs Pavillion in Tipp City, OH.
