Woodsy Up North Outdoor Wedding in Upper Michigan
A lake back lakeside outdoor Upper Michigan Wedding!
These two are nature lovers, and absolutely love adventures. That’s why they chose to have a destination wedding in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. After visiting Marquette together while dating, they fell in love with the area. A clear choice for their wedding. they even picked their wedding location before they chose their wedding date!
Brooke and Chris got engaged at Pigeon Forge in the Smoky Mountains after dating for 6 years. Family is really important to them, so they decided to ask their family to be their wedding party. Brooke’s mom was her Maid of Honor. Chris’s dad was one of his groomsmen
Brooke and Chris asked their grandmothers, Sue and Nelly to be their flower girls! And I’m so glad they agreed to it because they were perfect!
Animals are a big part of Brooke and Chris’s life. They have three cats and a dog, Penny, who’s a Shih Tzu mix. Penny was their “Dog of Honor” and she was thrilled about it!
After everyone was ready, we met at a secret spot on Presque Isle in the forest for Brooke and Chris’s First Look.
They were both very anxious to see each other on their wedding day! This was a big moment, and it was really meaningful to them both. When Brooke tapped Chris on the shoulder and he turned around, tears filled his eyes and he was rendered speechless! They embraced, cried, laughed, and embraced some more.
The day started out with them both getting ready with their family at separate Airbnb’s. The cabin was a perfect setting because it was quiet, peaceful, and had beautiful views of Beauyan Lake, near Marquette.
One of the details from this wedding that I loved was Brooke’s dress (isn’t it GORGEOUS?) from Jenna in White in Berkley, MI. She wanted a dress that was comfortable, and that would work with her curves. This dress was a dream. I also loved Penny, the Dog of Honor, and her cute neck wreath designed by the florist.
Carp River Gardens is one of the most BEAUTIFUL places I’ve seen a wedding take place!
The whole place is full of amazing gardens, with little magical details everywhere! It’s surrounded by tall, beautiful pines, and the sunlight peeking through makes for a beautiful atmosphere.
The ceremony was short and sweet, with a casual, laid-back vibe. Everyone loved it when Sue and Nelly came down the aisle with Penny! Chris was just as emotional when Brooke walked down the aisle as when they had their first look. After their marriage was sealed with a kiss, there was cheering and clapping, and then everyone started to head over to the reception tent to get the celebration started. The guests were asked to carry their chairs, and they did- stopping along the way to congratulate the newlyweds!
I LOVED all the personalized details at this wedding!
The Mr. & Mrs. Beer koozies, the handmade seed packets that Brooke and her mom put together, and the amazing dessert table. They didn’t just have cake- they had a whole assortment of homemade sweets and treats that were just as delicious as they looked!
Back at the reception, the celebration continued. Dinner was a buffet with delicious savory foods. The line was marked “Carnivore” and “Herbivore” which was a very nice touch because many of the guests (including the bride herself”) are vegetarian.
As the night progressed, the party got CRAZY! The dance floor was insane. Everyone was laughing, singing, and having THE BEST TIME! The party lasted until the moon was high in the sky.
I absolutely love working with wild-hearted couples who feel a connection with nature, and who want their wedding day documented in natural, meaningful photographs. I’m a wedding and elopement photographer based in Michigan and travel worldwide.
