Intimate Vinyard Wedding on Lake Michigan
WOW does this wedding have so many happy moments captured! They couldn’t have been happier to get married! A Lake Michigan wedding that is so authentic, it puts the real meaning into authentic again!
How did they meet?
Lydia caught Paul’s eye his junior year of college, but Lydia didn’t notice Paul until they ended up working on an interdisciplinary project Paul concocted for the express purpose of getting to know Lydia better. It turns out they were from the same hometown in Michigan!
Their proposal story?
Paul was traveling overseas at a conference. But instead of returning to Chicago as promised, he had a friend deliver a letter to Lydia’s desk at work. The letter contained a plane ticket to their hometown in Michigan. Boarding the plane two days later, Lydia had a strong suspicion something was afoot. She found a car waiting for her at the airport in Michigan with a bouquet of tulips and a hand-drawn map that led her on a drive and then hike to a canopy of lanterns in the forest where Paul was waiting for her.
What do they love most about each other?
Paul is in love with Lydia’s deeply caring spirit, generosity, perceptiveness, infectious enthusiasm for life, and exceptional curry. Lydia is in love with Paul’s warmth, joy, liveliness, and his servant heart.
Biggest wedding planning challenge?
Covid-19 posed a unique set of challenges to the wedding planning process, but the gift of an outdoor wedding on Paul’s family’s property made it possible to invite everyone we had hoped to invite. The outdoor wedding came with its own challenges, though, as a passing thunderstorm made for some last-minute scrambling and delays.
Favorite wedding day memory?
There are too many incredible memories from the day to count, most of which involved our friends and family, but one of the best moments was when, in dramatic fashion, the sun broke through the clouds during the ceremony.
Advice for couples?
Our advice for other couples would be to keep the wedding planning in perspective, not letting it cause anxiety or relational rifts, and when the wedding day comes, commit as much of the day to memory, writing, or photos as possible to treasure those moments in months and years to come.”
Any other cute notes about this amazing couple!
In all our years of weddings, we’ve never seen a bride who was so present and engaged with every single person she came in contact with, all day long. The way Lydia cared about people was astounding. And as for Paul, we’ve never seen a groom who had such a boyish sense of wonder and pure joy – over his bride in particular, but over the day as a whole too.
