mn monday: the simpler life

we’re reminiscing that glorious summer sunshine in this edition of mn monday. tiffany bolk photography sent in this lovely, central minnesota wedding and we fell in love with its simple charm. growing up in the big city, abie and her family vacationed in the rural area of alexandria, minnesota since she could remember. with many fond memories of this quaint little place, she couldn’t think of anywhere else in the world she would have wanted to marry bobby, the man of her dreams.

their simple and beautiful country wedding was held at the carlos creek winery with the ceremony being held at seven dolors church in millerville. using the charming countryside as an integral part of their decor options, abie and bobby used warm colors and lots of natural, glowing light to bring added warmth to their big day. white picket fences and jars of jam given away as favors, this lovely couple’s wedding was everything abie had envisioned for her rural wedding celebration. surrounded by the love of their family and friends, abie and bobby celebrated the old memories and toasted the new ones they were making.

words of love from bride, abie:

I woke up at the farm. It was finally day zero. Even though I had slept there a million times before, this was the perfect place to wake up to on my wedding day. This place held all my important memories growing up, so it was fitting to center our wedding around it. My parents and their best friends purchased the farm two years before I was born. It was a place for them to get away from the hustle and bustle of Minneapolis on the weekends. Growing up our family made the three hour drive from the cities to the farm every weekend, holiday, every chance we got. The property is uniquely beautiful, because it is adjacent to land preserved by the Nature Conservancy; looking out it seems endless, hills rolling in to a crisp blue lake. Being there made me feel small in the presence of such natural beauty, and sparked a love of nature, while deepening our love for family.

I always get nervous bringing people to the farm, because it is my favorite place and I am protective of it. So naturally, I was nervous the first time I asked Bobby to come with me there. He stepped out of the car, and fell in love with it. He immediately started making plans to bring his family and friends up to see it. I knew at that moment that one day I would get to watch my children play at the farm on the weekends with their Dad, and that Bobby would be him. Four years later, Bobby bought three apple trees and a crab apple tree and planted them on the hills at the farm in celebration of our wedding.

Our wedding wasn’t fancy. We got married at the quaint church in Millerville where my parents took us every Sunday at the farm. The church is so beautiful we decided not to decorate it. The ceremony was quick, and at the end Bobby picked me up and laid the BEST kiss on me while everyone cheered. It felt like butterflys, fireworks, and sunshine all in one moment. It was amazing!

We left the church in our prius followed by the wedding party in four giant trucks, all adorned with “I’m with the bride” or “I’m with the groom.” Our reception was at the Carlos Creek Winery in Alexandria. Bobby and I found this place while exploring around the farm one day and fell in love with the wine, the beautiful vineyards, and the wonderful people working there. It has become a must stop point now when we go to the farm. However, I will say it looked extra beautiful, and the wine tasted extra sweet on our special day.

The weather for the weekend was unreal. It was the nicest weekend all year. Not a cloud. I think the farm knew it was going to be photographed, and so it made a bargain with mother nature. The day was simple, fun, perfect.
