The inspiration behind the shoot:
I have never been a big New Years’ person. We usually watch the ball drop in New York and then go to bed. But this year has been completely different. I have never looked forward to the New Years’ celebration like this! I am more than ready for 2020 to be OVER. With everything that has happened, I find that my 2021 brides are eager for next year. And with that reality, I was inspired by the phrase, “going out with a bang.” I only had 3 days to plan this entire shoot. Which is insane in itself! But I had been trying to plan this NYE shoot off and on for the past 2 months. So when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped.
I live in a small town and we have to make things work with what we have.
Our police station is in front of an old Rawlings Baseball factory. It is now used for batting cages. But, all I needed was the industrial windows and perfect lighting. I brought my lights but I never had to use them. The sun streaming in added a glow I didn’t want to cancel out with artificial. We really did just move with the punches and this was the easiest style shoot that I have ever planned. My mother in law is a florist and she did the flowers. I called a photographer in Hartville (Kristin Williams Photography) to bring the champagne and sparklers and it really did feel like a party. Anytime you are with a best friend, it goes to another level.
Popping the champagne was a blast during this Modern New Years Eve Wedding Inspiration!
Always have the groom do the popping. I had a bride one year, break a nail and it was tragic, let me tell you. The confetti canon is brilliant. I have never used one but I think that every NYE bride needs to plan on buying one or two. Shoot it up into the air above the couple and you will get the chance to get several photos while it is falling down. I think my best advice to give to an NYE bride and groom is, don’t do so much planning. Have your necessities there; family, friends, champagne, and confetti. Have fun. That’s is all I would want as a guest at this wedding. I would want to show up to celebrate the couple and feel the restoration that 2021 is destined to bring.
