How did they meet?

We met on a dating app. On our first date, I [Whytnee] had insisted on walking to the restaurant, thinking it would be an excellent activity to start with, and the restaurant was only a mile away. It began to pour rain before we’d even made it halfway there. We arrived at the restaurant, soaked and freezing but laughing. We’ve been inseparable ever since, and it’s been three and a half incredible years.

Their proposal story?

We were at Suncadia in Cle Elum, WA, on a family trip. Johnathan said that he wanted to go to the resort to walk around and check out the scenery. He acted a little erratic (suddenly changing the direction we were walking or sitting down somewhere only to get back up and walk a moment again later). We finally go up to the then-open overlook platform, and we are looking at the stunning view. When Johnathan said, “I have an idea…” then he got down on one knee (almost fell over in the process XD) and asked the question. I responded with, “Are you sure?” and then, of course, I said yes.

What they love most about each other

W – I love how Johnathan is so entirely himself. He knows his strengths and weaknesses, and he is continually working to improve. Making me feel loved every day and comfortable being myself. He is affectionate, open, honest, and intelligent. I got fortunate in finding him and getting to spend my life with him.

J – I love the way W is always so supportive and cares deeply about us as a whole. She makes me feel wanted and loved every day. She makes me want to always be a better person without feeling like I ever need to change. I love her more and more every day we are together, and It takes a pretty particular person to put up with me,

The biggest challenge of planning their day?

The biggest challenge of planning the day would have to be learning to let go. We drove ourselves crazy trying to figure everything out and get everything where it needed to go when we needed to be there by ourselves. Only when we finally asked for help and delegated tasks, trusting in our support group to come through for us, did our day eventually come together.

Favorite memory of the day?

Our favorite memory of the day was the first look/location photoshoot. It was like the calm eye of the storm that is a wedding. We had a quiet moment before the chaos of the ceremony and reception, with just us and the photographer hiking through the stunning Mt. Baker woods. It was a time that we could spend together, creating memories that were intimate and personal. We were the center of attention while also feeling like we were the only two people there. It was an exceptional experience.

Advice for future couples?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your support system is always more robust than you realize.
