Rustic Oak Lodge Wedding in Pennsylvania

This classic rustic Oak Lodge Wedding has so many romantic and dreamy details! Any couple can turn a rustic lodge into a dreamscape just by adding a million twinkle lights! I am serious!

This rustic wedding of pink, peach, and blue is a classic dream So many details that will be stunning years from now. The ladies wore blue and pink bridesmaid dresses that were complemented with grey suits on the gentleman.

How did this amazing couple meet?

Leah and Shawn met in college, ran in the same friend circles but never dated. The summer after Leah’s graduation they found themselves at a mutual friend’s birthday party. That got each other laughing and ended up spending the rest of the evening talking. While the party carried on in the background.  At one point through the evening, Shawn asked Leah for her phone and sent a text to her mom that said “my name is Shawn, I’ve had a crush on your daughter for three years. Would it be okay if I asked her out?”  Her mom’s response?  “Go for it!”  The rest is history!!!!

Their amazing proposal story?

Their proposal happened on a trip to Disney World. Shawn didn’t have a plan for the proposal and decided he would wait for the perfect moment to present itself. After a ride on Space Mountain, Leah mentioned she wanted to get “pixie-dusted” in one of the shops behind the castle. He seized this opportunity to create the most romantic proposal! While Leah’s eyes were closed and the cast member was sprinkling glitter in her hair (and said “with faith, trust, and pixie dust may all your dreams come true), Shawn got down on one knee and patiently waited for Leah’s eyes to open. Needless to say, she was so surprised! It was an unforgettable moment, and of course, she said, “yes!”. They spent the rest of the trip on an “engagement-moon” drinking champagne and soaking in the romance and excitement of what was to come.

Favorite wedding day memory?

Leah surprised Shawn with one of their favorite songs as she walked down the aisle, “Solsbury Hill” by Peter Gabriel. The moment Shawn heard it at the altar and as she patiently waited behind the doors of the chapel, they both felt an astounding sense of joy and all of the wedding day jitters melted away. They were just so excited to see each other and exchange vows.

Biggest planning challenge?

Planning during the COVID-19 pandemic was a challenge. However, it made them both realize they did not want to wait to be married any longer. It was hard to feel secure in their excitement throughout the planning process. Because of the fluctuating information surrounding the virus as well as the RSVPs decreasing and increasing from March to August. In the end, they actually ended up with a more intimate wedding day that felt so full of love and just joy from everyone there.

What was their biggest photography ask?

We wanted to be sure to get formal photographs with our large families. Stanley and Marie were so organized and were able to quickly get all of our siblings, grandparents, parents, and step-parents through photos so they could go and enjoy cocktail hour. We also knew there was a specific spot on the mountain we wanted newlywed shots, called Church Rock. Stanley and Marie were able to get interesting and beautiful pictures of me and my sweet husband right after the ceremony. This was one of my (Leah’s) favorite parts of the day, we were so giddy and giggly after the ceremony. Stanley and Marie were able to capture that happiness as well as contribute to it as we all laughed and chatted together through these photos.

How did they choose their venue?

Oak Lodge was the only venue we toured during wedding planning. We wanted our wedding to feel like a destination and we wanted our guests to be able to walk to all of the events. We loved that space felt like its own tiny village. When we first saw the chapel, we knew it was absolutely perfect. As we toured the venue, we were brought to the old west-style tavern for cocktail hour and then to Mercantile Hall where the reception would take place. The hall felt so warm and beautiful with twinkle lights on every inch of the ceiling. We also loved the idea of dancing under the stars at Oak Lodge’s outdoor dance floor. On our wedding day, all of these details we loved on our tour were 100 times more beautiful.

All about her dress!

I found my dress at BHLDN online. Since there was not a BHLDN store in Pittsburgh when I was shopping, I waited for a BHLDN pop-up shop tour to arrive in Bakery Square in Pittsburgh. It was the first dress I tried on and instantly knew it was the one. Knowing our wedding would be surrounded and inspired by nature, the branches, leaves, and blossom appliqués were the perfect touch. Also, one layer of my tulle skirt was sparkly which reminded me of our proposal story. I felt like I had a little pixie dust sewn into my dress on the happiest day!

The day told from the photographers perspective:

We knew that Leah and Shawn’s wedding was going to be special from the day that we met with them at their booking meeting because you could just feel the love between them.  On their wedding day, it was amazing to see them separately before the ceremony because they were asking about each other and so anxious to see one another.  Their ceremony was extremely intimate and personal, with lots of tears shed (including some from me!).  My favorite memory during their wedding day was watching their complete nature chemistry blossom during their newlywed photos.  These two did not need ANY prompting-they were so natural because they were just living in the moment and cherishing where they were after such a rocky road of planning during a pandemic.  They also had an amazing reception with tons of dancing and silly memories!
