This stunning snowy mountain top proposal in Ashville North Carolina will give all the couples planning a proposal inspiration! These photos took my breath away! The way the ice and snow sit on the plants, the watercolor mountains in the distance, and their adorable dog!
About the couple:
Brad and Katharine met under unlikely circumstances. Katharine was attending graduate school in Indianapolis and Brad was living in a location two hours away from her. They like to say that the stars had to be perfectly aligned for their paths to cross. Thankfully, a dating app helped make that happen! Long-distance can make it difficult for most couples, however, they have rolled with the challenges and grown in their relationship along the way.
Their proposal story?
Brad had purchased the ring for Katharine months before the proposal. She had no idea that he had been in communication with her family and friends for months planning the perfect engagement weekend. On the day of their two-year anniversary, Brad disclosed told her that they would be taking a trip to Asheville, North Carolina to spend some quality time together. He even created a fake itinerary to throw her off of his real plan!
To anyone that knows Brad, keeping a secret this big was not an easy task. The weekend of the trip they got up early and drove the 5 hours to Asheville. He told Katharine that he knew of a beautiful hike they could stop at on their way into town. Even though there was a traffic that caused Brad’s heart rate to spike, they made it in time to Max’s Patch for sunset.
When they reached the summit, he told her to turn around to take a picture with their dog. When she turned back around Brad was down on one knee. His use of his dad’s one-liner, “Well, this looks like a pretty good spot for a proposal doesn’t it?” caught Katharine by complete surprise and she said “Yes!”
The surprises weren’t over yet!
Katharine still expected to spend the weekend just the two of them in Asheville. Driving to their Airbnb, Brad mentioned that he had upgraded to a larger house so they could have more space. They rolled up the driveway and Katharine was in complete shock. She walked into the beautiful home to see her closest friends and family waiting for the newly engaged couple. With each person receiving a negative COVID test prior to attending, the celebrations followed all weekend long. The couple says they couldn’t have asked for a better engagement weekend!
What they love most about each other?
Katharine loves Brad’s energy for life. The passion he has for his work, love of the outdoors, and ability to turn a stranger into a best friend in under 5 minutes makes him the perfect man for her.
Brad loves Katharine’s bubbly, kind and genuine personality! She puts everyone before herself and is always ready to lend a helping hand. She’s always ready for a new adventure and never says no to a good time! Plus she’s the best mom to their dog Banks!
The biggest challenge of planning their day so far?
Trying to set a date! With the unknowns of the pandemic, the couple is planning to enjoy their time as an engaged couple prior to settling on when the big day will be.
Favorite memory from the snowy mountain top proposal session?
Brad had been worried about rain the week leading up to the surprise since he planned to propose on a hike. No one expected the touch of snow that created this winter wonderland of a location. There were glistening icicles hanging off the trees, which made for the perfect complement to the pinks and oranges of the sunset. Talk about magic!
Other cute notes about the amazing couple?
Banks is the couple’s chocolate lab and was an important part of their engagement session. Right after Brad proposed, two wild mountain dogs joined us and played with Banks while we finished up with pictures. It’s clear that Banks is just as friendly as his dad and quite photogenic!
