Unique and Non-Traditional Botanical Garden Wedding in Tucson Arizona
Kristin and Adam are two adventurous souls who met mountaineering through the canyons of Arizona. They originally wanted to say their vows surrounded by towering saguaros in Saguaro National Park, but covid regulations did not allow more than 10 people, so they moved their celebration to the Tucson Botanical Gardens.
With florals by Kristin’s mom, acoustic music by a local musician, and an artistic art show with a gorgeous day of the dead sculptures, and accompanied by only nearest and dearest friends and family (20 people total) Kristin and Adam were married by TWO of their best friends officiating.
How did they meet?
The story goes that we met through a canyoneering (exploration of canyons) meetup group for skills practice. Adam was practicing and almost core shot my brand new rope. Of course, he felt bad so he invited me to do a canyon and that began our adventures together.
Their proposal story?
We go to an event every year called freeze fest where we camp over New Year’s and complete canyons in Southern Utah. It’s also usually below freezing temperatures or close to it. Adam originally kissed me for the first time on New Year’s eve our first year of going so this past year when we arrived we went for a hike to the bottom of a canyon and Adam proposed to me. It was of course very sentimental since this was the same place our romantic relationship started years before.
What they love most about each other
Adam. Kristin’s sense of adventure since she was always up for his crazy outdoor ideas.
Kristin. Adam’s commanding presence and love of nature.
The biggest challenge of planning their Tucson Botanical Gardens Wedding?
Where to begin. Pandemic weddings led to a whole new host of problems. We initially had our wedding planned for May, which was canceled due to COVID. We waited and then decided we were going to have it in October with about 6-8 weeks of time to plan it. The venue was the biggest challenge with trying to have an outdoor wedding on public property so we ended up going with a private venue.
Favorite memory of the day?
Adam. Seeing Kristin for the first time in her vibrant red dress since they chose not to see each other before the wedding.
Kristin. It would be testing Adam on pictures from all of our adventures over the years. It was a fun interactive game we had our guests play where they guessed from a photo and a list of adventures to match them. He got almost all of the adventures right without the list!
