How did this adventurous couple meet?
Erica & Brad met online since Erica just moved to Kansas City and didn’t know anyone. She signed up for an online app on Thanksgiving, received a text from Brad the next day, went on their first date a week later, and the rest is history!
Their proposal story? (Told from Brad’s perspective.)
A few days prior, I (Brad) told Erica that I would like to take her out to eat on Sunday (September 23) for her birthday which was the following day. When Sunday rolled around I told her we were going to an Italian restaurant that we had talked about before and neither of us had been to before. On our way to dinner, I drove us to a small airport just north of downtown and told her I wanted to check something out inside one of the terminals. I could tell she was trying to figure out what was going on. She later told me she thought I may be proposing but didn’t see the outline of a ring box in my pocket so she moved on with her thoughts.
As we walked inside, I told the clerk that we had a flight reservation and looked at Erica. Her eyes lit up and I told her we were going on a helicopter ride over the city. I had told her a few weeks back that I wanted to take a flight for her birthday but the flight, which I had reserved through another company had to cancel my reservation because of maintenance issues. This was true and fortunately, I found another local company who could fly the same day, but I didn’t tell her. My secret plan though was a little more special than just a birthday flight.
As we walked out to the helicopter with the pilot, we were both so excited and couldn’t stop smiling.
The pilot offered to take some pictures of us standing next to the helicopter before the flight and as we moved positions for a few more pictures, I turned toward Erica, held her left hand, and got down on one knee. As I brought out the ring, I could see the surprise, happiness, and love in her body language and after asking her to marry me, she said yes. It was the perfect moment and it surprised the pilot too.
We took a thirty-minute flight over the city shortly before the sunset which made for some amazing views. I think we can both admit that it was difficult to balance looking out across the city and looking at each other.
After landing, we drove to the restaurant and started to make our notifications to family and friends via texts and phone calls. It was so exciting! Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious meal together to celebrate both the engagement and her birthday.
What they love most about each other?
What Brad says he loves most about Erica:
From our first conversation on Match.com, I have never felt judged by her for who I am or what I have been through. She accepts and cherishes everything about me. She motivates and supports me in every aspect of my life and I strive to do the same for her. I am living a life of happiness and love which at times before meeting her, I didn’t think existed. She is my best friend and the true love of my life. It took nearly 31 years and four months for our lives to come together and without a doubt in my mind, I would go through that time again if it meant I would meet her and fall in love the way in which we have.
What Erica says she loves most about Brad:
What I love the most about Brad is his love for life and gratefulness for each and every day he gets to wake up and live. He doesn’t take anything for granted, and he is so appreciative of everything he has. It’s very humbling. I am so thankful for his positive outlook on life and how loved he makes me feel every single day!
Favorite wedding day memory from their Wintery Mountain Elopement?
Hiking up before the sun came up by headlamp! On the way up, we stopped at an overlook and started to see the orange glow of the sun in the distance. These moments leading up to their adventure were so exciting. Then we arrived to the lake just in time for alpenglow. It was like a winter wonderland, and we had it all to ourselves.
Advice for future couples:
Winter elopements can be very chilly, especially in the mountains where you’ll likely experience wind. Bring along lots of hand warmers and layers that you don’t mind being photographed in. Shawls, scarfs, blankets, and even warm jackets will fit the winter scene! Erica also wore nude fleece-lined leggings under her dress for some added warmth, and you wouldn’t even know they were there!
Any other cute notes about this amazing couple!
Erica & Brad both enjoy staying active, being outdoors, trying new (and old favorite) restaurants, taking weekend trips within driving distance, road trips to get Indian Food, and shopping dates at Trader Joes & Costco. Their elopement was perfect in every way!
